Keypoint Newsletter: Happy Anniversary to US!

By Deanna Haas

This upcoming year is a major milestone for Keystone Symposia.  In January 2022, we will kick off a year-long celebration in honor of our 50th anniversary. To commemorate this achievement, we are launching our first-ever capital campaign called Fifty Forward!

With an initial goal of $5m, Fifty Forward will focus on building endowments around three key initiatives, founded on core values that have been a part of our history and mission from the very beginning:

  • Advancing Diversity in the Life Sciences aims to bolster diversity among the scientific workforce, to build a future where biomedical and biological research encompasses and serves the interests of diverse populations.
  • Emerging Minds will invest in our mission to support the next generation of biomedical and life science workforce.
  • Emerging Topics will allow Keystone Symposia to invest in holding conferences in new research frontiers that bring together and create nascent scientific communities, allowing us to continue to lead the way in developing programs with cutting-edge topics that hold the promise of tomorrow’s scientific and medical breakthroughs.

Throughout the year we will be hosting celebratory events in Boston, New York City, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington DC and, back where it all started, in Los Angeles.  In addition, we will enjoy birthday cake and other surprises at many of our meetings, and host a celebratory dinner during our annual Scientific Advisory Board meeting in Keystone, on June 11.

We are proud to celebrate this landmark moment in Keystone Symposia history and we want you to join us, as a member of the foundational community that has been key to our success!  Our Fifty Forward campaign honors our past and ensures a future where Keystone Symposia will remain vital to the biomedical science community for generations to come.

We thank our Fifty Forward Campaign committee:  Vishva Dixit, chair, Ed Dennis, Vicki Sato, Margaret Liu and Chris Karp for their expertise and enthusiasm in advising and guiding us through this momentous occasion.
