Women Are Making History in Biomedicine at Keystone Symposia

Written by Shannon Weiman | Mar 12, 2020 9:19:10 PM

For Women's History Month, we are highlighting the many inspiring women who are making history in science and medicine!  From students to field leaders, across academia and industry, women scientists are pioneering new discoveries and leading the charge towards advances with clinical and global health impacts.

The face of science is changing...

...and has already changed immensely, thanks to their efforts and perseverance.  The importance of inclusion, diversity, and mentorship amongst the scientific community has risen to the forefront, in large part due to women's involvement.

At Keystone Symposia, we have seen gender imbalance shift dramatically.

We strive to ensure equal representation by women scientists among our meeting organizers, speakers, scholarship winners, etc., to provide an inclusive and supportive community for women across all career stages. These efforts, and their success, are illustrated by substantial increases in female representation across our meeting portfolio in recent years— approaching and in many cases achieving equity.

    • In 2019, 52% of junior participants (students or post-docs) were women

Our commitment to gender equality extends across all aspects of our conferences and organization.

We lead by example, with a stellar staff comprised of more than 50% women and a dream team of inspirational women spearheading our efforts.

In this blogpost we would like to showcase Board of Directors member Dr. Cherié Butts, PhD, a leader in industry science at Biogen. Also a Keystone Symposia Fellows Program alum, and past meeting organizer (2017 meeting on "Biobetters & Next-Generation Biologics"), she has been a driving force for women, diversity and science with clinical impacts both within our own organization, and the drug development research community.
